Intervention can be broadly described as 'how to help somebody who does not want help'. Intervention is not a cure: where denial or fear is preventing someone from accepting help, intervention can deliver them into the care of treatment professionals where they can begin to get well.
The process of intervention requires specialist training, careful planning and very sensitive handling to achieve results; done properly, it has a very high success rate.
At Charter we are keen to explode the myth that no sufferer of an addiction will respond to treatment 'until they are ready'. Help can be accessed where resistance levels are so high that friends and family are not able to have an impact unaided. It is possible to get through to someone in the throes of an addictive spiral by conducting an intervention process at a sophisticated level.
